Nvohk Eco Clothing Company Goes Bust

3rd January 2009 The world's first community-managed clothing company has announced it will be dissolved by the new year. Nvohk (pronounced "invoke") has struggled to establish itself over the last six month of business amidst an unforgiving financial climate. The news will shock the 500 members who have been developing the brand.

The concept of Nvohk was formed in late 2007 as an attempt to cash-in on a current trend in internet crowd sourcing. The project had an eco-twist and claimed to be deep rooted in the surf culture.

This appealed to a worldwide audience who fancied the idea of running their own clothing label. In total 500 members signed up on the Nvohk website and began submitting t-shirt and logo designs for other members to vote on.

Just as the first collection of t-shirt designs had been produced, the company ran into financial problems. With sales slower than hoped for, alongside an increasingly difficult market, co-founders Brendan Lynch and Sergio Salas announced they Nvohk would go bust.

Members are not expected to receive any refund of their yearly fees, despite the company only remaining active for six months - less than half the time paid for. Some areas of the membership have even threatened legal action, claiming that the dissolution will break the terms of use contract.

There has already been warning signs for Nvohk. In October, every member was sent their obligatory co-founder t-shirt printed onto organic fabric. However, even now there are some members who claim to not have received their t-shirt still. More worryingly, a large proportion of people who did receive their shirt noticed that the ink washed off after just one wash.

Despite the management attempting to clear this issue up, the company never really recovered. All trading is intended to end by the 1st January 2009.
