Lowey and Ferg Dominate the Leaderboard

21st June 2009 Tom Lowe and Fergal Smith have continued their assault on the UK surf scene by yet again taking the limelight in the June issue of Carve, with Lowey bagging the front cover.

The pair scored a combined 705 points in this issue alone, a feat that has pushed them into the top two places on the MyProSurfer.co.uk leaderboard. Previous leader, Reubyn Ash, sinks to third place, just ahead of Croyde local, Lyndon Wake.

Over the course of 2009, both Fergal Smith and Tom Lowe have received Carve cover-shots alongside intense coverage surrounding their movie, Powers of Three, produced in collaboration with Relentless.

Infact the entirity of Fergal Smith's 1,615 points, which stand him in second place, are due to Carve exposure alone. This has called some areas of the UK surf community to suggest that the Carve features are perhaps becoming cliched.

Despite this, it is hard to deny that the pair, along with photographer Mickey Smith, deserve the extent of their coverage after their antics on the west coast of Ireland this winter.

Still, surfers like Matt Capel, Oli Adams and Joss Ash, who have recieved consistently high exposure in all UK surf mags this year, will be disappointed that they are not higher up the leaderboard.
