The locals were not to be outdone with Asanka creating the upset of the round. Defeating an on form Toby Donachie and Danny Wells to progress to the third round of the event.

Asanka said "it's great to welcome back the UK Pro surf tour to Arugam Bay. I love to watch the UK surfers and hopefully try to learn from them. It's also great for the local economy and promotes tourism."

Johnny Fryer who had the highest scoring wave of the day (9.33 out of a possible 10) also commented,

"I've always loved this wave and stoked to be back here this year. The heat was so much fun, felt really relaxed. I feel confident I'll do well."

Tomorrow the swell forecast is to get even bigger which will provide an opportunity for another fantastic day of surfing.

The UK tour was the first championship to return to the Sri Lanka east coast following the 2004 Tsunami, and now is returning as the country's civil conflict has ended.

Event organisers would like to thank SriLanka Airlines, Sri Lanka Tourism and Crystal Holidays for making the event happen.
