Carve October 2009...
No Crowds guaranteed!
While most of us have considered stabbing wax models of certain owners of certain surf forecasting internet sites from time to time for various reasons, there’s one country which puts our amateur witchcraft to shame. CARVE sent its intrepid explorers to get a few tips in Haiti! Also this month, check out Taiwan in typhoon season.
The Carve Interview: Lloyd Cole
Swansea surfer Lloyd Cole has quietly been racking up Welsh titles over the years, so we thought it was time to sit him down for a chat. After he’d been on a quick trip to Hossegor to get some shots of course!
Three Wise Men
Bob McTavish, Steve Walden and Richie Lovett – three of the world’s top international shapers/designers – were over here last month, for a meet ’n greet tour organised by Tiki and Global Surf Industries. We cornered them to ask them about the sticks they’ve been producing.
In Da House
“Take a bunch of Britain’s top young surfing talent and give them a luxury house in Capbreton to run amok in.” What kind of foolhardy idea is this? In the good old days when groms used to ask sponsors for help with expenses they got a compass and a fishing rod.
Hydro Therapy
It’s been a bit quiet on the ‘Brits and Irish charging big waves’ front for like, well, a whole issue. Then up pops Mr Hick on some of the biggest waves ever surfed at Shipstern’s. Go the lads!
Antifreeze
Yup, winter’s coming. This year we had every brand send us a wetsuit into the office for a photoshoot and you know what, there are some bloody good wetsuits out there! We reckon this year’s crop are some of the most innovative and polished products we’ve ever seen. Check them out and laugh in winter’s long frozen face.
